Search on for Suspect after N.Y. State Police Trooper Shot, Wounded

A New York State Police trooper was in stable condition after a shooting along the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead, and authorities were searching for the suspect.

New York State Police are searching for a suspect accused of shooting and wounding a trooper late Thursday.

The shooting happened at around 11:45 p.m. along the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead, the department stated in a release. It's unclear what led to the incident.

The trooper was rushed to the hospital following the shooting and is in stable condition. No details were released concerning the nature of the trooper's injuries.

The suspect in the shooting fled the scene in a vehicle with a New Jersey temporary plate.

The shooting is under investigation.
